Zilous are minimalist, double-sided flatweave rugs, entirely made from cotton using a unique technique that dates back over 1,100 years to historical Persia.
Zilou vs. Kilim
Kilims are lightweight, woolen handwoven rugs. Wool fibers are naturally warm and durable. Using a simpler weaving technique, kilims offer a wide range of colors and designs in each piece.
Zilous are plant-based, handwoven rugs made entirely from cotton. Cotton fibers are cool, breathable, hypoallergenic. Their intricate weaving technique results in a minimal design with mirrored patterns on each side, making them heavier and thicker.
Handmade
At Ronaus, creating a zilou is a genuine art form, carefully crafted by hand without the use of pedals, machines, or any mechanical aids, woven by master artisans. So the slight variations that may appear are not considered faults or defects but rather valuable reflections of the human touch—something that machine-made or mass-produced items lack. Therefore, please note that small differences in size and color (up to 3%) are expected. Additionally, slight curves along the edges and minor variations in repeating patterns are inherent to the handmade quality, though efforts are made to minimize them.

Care and Maintenance
Our rugs carry the legacy of ancient craftsmanship. To preserve their beauty and ensure their longevity, please keep the following in mind:
Have your rug cold washed at a reputable carpet cleaner. Ensure that harsh detergents, particularly chlorine-based products, are avoided, as they can significantly impact the rug’s colors, fibers, and overall quality. For small stains, gently clean with a damp, soft brush and mild detergent.
Handcrafted from pure cotton, our zilous are sensitive to heat and moisture. Avoid exposure to flames and ensure proper ventilation in high-humidity areas.
Direct, continuous sunlight may cause fading over time. To minimize damage, rotate your rug periodically to balance the effects of natural light.
